ClassNK Releases Latest Rules and Guidance for Ship Survey
The Nippon Kaiji Kyokai（ClassNK) released the latest versions of its Rules and Guidance for the Survey and Construction of Steel Ships. These versions include all amendments dated 26 February 2014.
ClassNK is constantly revising its Rules and Guidance in order to reflect requests from industry, the latest results from relevant research and development projects, feedback from damage investigations as well as changes made to relevant international conventions, IACS Unified Requirements, national regulations, etc.
More specifically, some of the requirements amended or established this time are as follows:
- Requirements related to “Scope of Application of Fire-resistant Cables”, etc. in response to industry requests, etc.;
- Requirements related to “Full Review of the Requirements for Ore Carriers”, etc. in order to reflect recent research and development results;
- Requirements related to “Means of Communication for Fire-fighters”, etc. in order to reflect feedback obtained from recent damage investigations;
- Requirements related to “Code on Noise Levels on Board Ships”, etc. in order to reflect recent changes made to relevant international conventions;
- Requirements related to “Approval Procedures of Corrosion Resistant Steel used for Cargo Oil Tanks”, etc. in order to reflect recent changes made to relevant IACS Unified Requirements; and
- Requirements related to “Survey of Radio Installations for Japanese-flagged Ships”, etc. in order to reflect recent changes made to relevant national regulations, etc.
