Newly rebranded Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard (formerly STX France) in Saint-Nazaire, France hosted the steel-cutting ceremony for Celebrity Cruises’ second Edge-class ship, Celebrity Apex.

Celebrity Apex is expected to debut in spring 2020, with the third and fourth Edge series ships arriving in fall 2021 and fall 2022, respectively.

“The success and momentum for Celebrity Edge has been incredible, and with Celebrity Apex we will yet again show how we are taking our brand to the next level. We are offering our guests the best way to experience the world in modern luxury style,” Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, President and CEO, Celebrity Cruises, said.

“We are proud to celebrate the launch of another incredible Edge Class ship with Celebrity Cruises. The brand is known for many industry firsts so it’s fitting that Celebrity Apex is the first to participate in a steel cutting ceremony under our new name Chantiers de l’Atlantique, another milestone of the great partnership we have built together,” Laurent Castaing, General Manager, Chantiers de l’Atlantique, said.

The final outfitting of Celebrity Edge is well underway at the yard and the 117,000 gross ton cruise ship is set for delivery in October 2018.

The ship is 300 meters long and 38 meters wide and has the capability to carry 2,900 guests in 1,450 staterooms.

One of the notable features of the ship will be the so-called Magic Carpet, a 90-ton movable platform that will be cantilevered over its side. This floating platform reaches a height of 13 stories above sea level. The ship will also feature a rooftop garden, dubbed the Eden.

Celebrity Cruises has launched a fleet-wide redesign of accommodation facilities and amenities on board its ships called the Celebrity Revolution with the aim of boosting their quality.

The first “revolutionary” revitalization will take place in 2019, beginning with the Celebrity Millennium, and will continue across the fleet through 2023.
