Teekay Offshore has taken delivery of Norse Spirit, the second of the company’s three Heritage Class shuttle tankers, from South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI).

The delivery ceremony for the 147,000 dwt DP2 tanker was held on November 7.

Christened in August this year, Norse Spirit, together with its sister vessels, will provide crude transportation services in Canada’s East Coast.

Final preparations are now ongoing and the vessel will soon start its voyage home to St John’s, Canada, Teekay Offshore said.

The 279-meter-long Norse Spirit will join its sister vessel Beothuk Spirit which was handed over to Teekay last month. Beothuk Spirit and Norse Spirit are scheduled to commence long-term charters in December 2017 and January 2018, according to the company.

The third ship from the batch, Dorset Spirit, is slated for delivery in early 2018.

The newbuildings will operate at Hibernia, Terra Nova, White Rose and Hebron offshore oil fields located in St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador.

Teekay Offshore Partners recently published its financial results for the third quarter of this year reporting GAAP net loss attributable to the partners and preferred untiholders of USD 317.5 million, compared to GAAP net income of USD 47.7 million posted in the same quarter of 2016.

In addition, the company generated GAAP loss from vessel operations of USD 273.7 million in Q3 2017, compared to an income of USD 61.7 million seen in the corresponding three-month period a year earlier.
