The FSO unit Randgrid, which was converted from one of Teekay Offshore Partners’ shuttle tankers, started its charter contract with Statoil in the Gina Krog oil and gas field on October 6.

Following conversion works at Sembcorp’s Sembawang shipyard in Singapore, the unit set sail for Gina Krog, located in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea, where it arrived in September.

“Today marks a significant milestone in Teekay Offshore’s FSO franchise with the start-up of our largest FSO project to-date,” Ingvild Sæther, President and CEO of Teekay Offshore Group, said.

The Randgrid FSO is expected to contribute annual cash flow from vessel operations of some USD 60 million during the firm period of the charter contract, the company informed.

The unit is designed to operate for a minimum of 15 years of uninterrupted operations, without the need to leave the field for drydocking.

The unit’s start-up comes less than a month after it experienced a small fire in the engine room. Due to the fire, which was “extinguished immediately”, 138 workers were evacuated from the vessel while it was in the Port of Mekjarvik, Norway.
