SCPA Monthly Box Volume Reaches All-Time High

South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) reported an all-time record container volume of 185,018 TEUs handled in January 2017.

As measured in pier containers or total box volume, SCPA handled 104,792 boxes last month, surpassing the previous record of 104,003 containers handled in May 2015.

Container volume was up 28 percent compared to January 2016.

“As we move into the second half of the fiscal year, SCPA container volume is up 8 percent compared to the same period last year,” SCPA revealed.

In 2016, the port handled also a record box volume of nearly two million TEUs. Namely, SCPA recorded a throughput of 1.996 million TEUs last year, exceeding the previously achieved record of 1.985 million TEUs in 2005.

The port authority owns and operates public seaport facilities in Charleston, Georgetown and Greer.
