Slovenia’s Port of Koper has welcomed for the first time COSCO Shipping Panama, one of the largest container vessels to moor in Koper.

Arriving from the Chinese Port Kelang, COSCO Shipping Panama will call afterward at Trieste, Italy, and then sail to Turkey. According to the port, about 3,000 TEUs will be loaded and unloaded from the vessel in Koper.

The 9,472 TEU boxship participated in the inauguration of the Expanded Panama Panama Canal as the first vessel to sail through this waterway between the Atlantic and the Pacific Ocean.

Launched in January 2016, COSCO Shipping Panama features a length of 300 meters and a width of 48 meters.

The 111,600 dwt container ship is owned by the Chinese shipping company Cosco Shipping. The vessel is part of a service operated by Cosco Shipping, CMA CGM, United Arab Shipping Company (UASC), Evergreen and Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL). The service connects the North Adriatic and the Far East.
