ZIM Most Reliable Carrier in 2nd Quarter

Israel’s cargo shipping company ZIM Integrated Shipping Services Ltd. was the most reliable carrier during the second quarter of 2016, followed by Japanese counterpart Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and German-based Hamburg Süd Group, according to the Global Liner Performance Report by SeaIntel Maritime Analysis.

Namely, ZIM was at the top with a global on-time performance of 87.8%, while MOL and Hamburg Süd saw their performance reach 87.3% and 87.1%, respectively.

The report stated that global schedule reliability in the second quarter increased to 85% from 78.7% seen in the previous quarter, improving 8.5 percentage points on a Y/Y level.

All top-20 carriers recorded an increase in schedule reliability over the first quarter of the year, with South Korea’s Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) and Singapore-based APL showing the biggest increases of 8.1 and 7.6 percentage points to 85% and 85.8%, respectively.

Additionally, the largest Y/Y increases in schedule reliability were seen from Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), ZIM and Taiwanese Yang Ming.

The report also shows that the Asia-Unites States West Coast trade lane showed an improvement of 12.1 percentage points from the previous quarter, while the trade lane experienced a surge of 21.4 percentage points on a Y/Y level.

Schedule reliability in the Asia-US East Coast trade lane increased by 11 percentage points, and by 7.7 percentage points for the respective periods.

The Asia-North Europe trade lane reliability reached 81.8% in the second quarter, while the Asia-Mediterranean trade lane quarterly schedule reliability stood at 85.9% .
