Gulftainer’s KCT Receives Its Biggest Vessel Yet

Gulftainer’s Khorfakkan Container Terminal (KCT) located on Sharjah’s Indian Ocean coast, has welcomed its largest vessel yet, the CMA CGM Kerguelen, sailing on the CMA flagship service FAL1.

According to  Gulftainer‘s Terminal Manager at KCT, Daniel Wright, receiving CMA CGM Kerguelen is another milestone for Gulftainer and Khorfakkan Container Terminal.

“This new milestone adds to the benchmarks already achieved this year at the terminal where we recently set a new record for the highest number of containers discharged and loaded on a single vessel call when the ‘CMA CGM Jules Verne’ worked a total of 19,561 TEUs in a record time, ” he said.

The CMA CGM Kerguelen, with a total capacity of 17,722 TEUs, was delivered to the French liner in April.  On her maiden call to KCT, the vessel discharged and loaded over 7,700 containers and departed the terminal ahead of schedule, Gulftainer said.

Gulftainer ‘s current portfolio covers UAE operations in Khorfakkan Port and Port Khalid in Sharjah as well as activities at Umm Qasr in Iraq, Recife in Brazil, Jeddah and Jubail in Saudi Arabia and Tripoli Port in Lebanon, which is set to begin  operations in September 2015.

The company also expanded to the USA in 2014 by signing a long-term agreement to operate the container and multi-cargo terminal at Port Canaveral in Florida.

Container ship CMA CGM Jamaica is expected to dock at Port Canaveral today. The call, though a ceremonial one as it will not form part of a regular service, is targeted at helping dedicate the new terminal as the container traffic at the port is virtually nonexistent at the moment.
