MOL Ferry Orders Eco Pair

MOL Ferry Orders Eco Pair

MOL Ferry has ordered two 200-metre-long, 14,000-gt eco ferries from Japan Marine United (JMU). Upon their delivery planned for 2017, the vessels will connect Japan’s islands of Honshu and Hokkaido through the Oarai-Tomakomai route.

The vessels will be able to travel with speeds of up to 24 knots, and will feature a contra-rotating propeller (CRP) system together with an optimised hull form to reduce fuel consumption.

The ferries will be powered by a twin electric drive hybrid propulsion system, and will have the capacity of 46 crew and 620 passengers.
