“K” Line Invests Big in Its Car Carrier Capacity

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, LTD. (“K” Line) has decided to order two additional new next generation 7,500 RT car carrier vessels from Shin Kurushima Dockyard Co. Ltd, with delivery date scheduled for 2017.

The decision comes in the wake of K-Line’s recent identical 8-vessel shipbuilding contracts with delivery from 2015 to 2016.

“By adding these two new additional ships, line-up of our new next generation car carrier vessels with better stability and increased fuel efficiency will expand to a total of ten,” the company said, stressing further its commitment to add further capability to handling an even wider variety of cargo mix.

“K” Line launched its car carrier fleet build-up plan in September last year, when it signed agreements to build four next generation car carrier vessels.
Participating shipbuilders are Shin Kurushima Dockyard Co. Ltd and Japan Marine United Corporation.

These vessels will be the widest beam ever built, around 37-38 meters with 7,500-unit capacity. Length of the vessel is kept at 200 meters, considering ability to call at any port, Yoshiyuki Aoki, Executive Managing Officer, Car Carrier Sector explained.
