Kongsberg Wins Contracts in Korea

Kongsberg Maritime has secured contracts for the delivery of fully integrated navigation and automation systems for a series of 14 crude/product tankers ordered by BP shipping Ltd.

The new builds will be delivered by STX Offshore and Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. by September 2016. The contracts, which were awarded through an international open tender, are valued at approximately $24 million.

Kongsberg Maritime will deliver ‘Full picture’ integrated vessel control systems including navigation, communication, and automation of machinery and propulsion systems. Included in the Kongsberg scope of supply is also a state-of-the-art tank monitoring and gauging system, based upon advanced radar technology.

In addition, a sophisticated vessel performance system will monitor and provide decision support on energy efficiency, fuel usage and optimal sailing.

“Kongsberg Maritime is proud that BP Shipping Ltd. and STX Offshore and Shipbuilding Co, Ltd. selected ‘Full Picture’ technology solutions for this massive new building program. We have experienced significant success with our integrated approach to marine technology in the merchant Marine market, and continue to see the ‘Full Picture’ chosen for control and management of the world’s most advanced ships,” said Leif Kristian Weum, Sales Manager Merchant Marine, Kongsberg Maritime.
