Early Design in FORAN at SNAME Annual Meeting

SENER has attended the last SNAME (Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers in the US) annual meeting from 6th to 8th of November. This time Bellevue was the city for the venue, situated close to Seattle in Washington.

During the event, some technical sessions took place as part of the Ship Production Symposium, where some engineers from the shipbuilding industry presented important innovations and advances in the state of the art for shipbuilding.

Verónica Alonso, North America Area Manager from SENER Marine Business Unit, presented the paper: The use of a 3D CAD System at early design in shipbuilding, written with Antonio Valderrama and Rodrigo Pérez, all from SENER. The subject, of great interest in the shipbuilding industry in the US and in the rest of the world talks about the FORAN approach to a complex issue: the important change in the development of the functional design, from 2D to 3D.

FORAN, developed by SENER, has been enhanced with important capabilities for a successful use at early design stages. The most remarkable advantages of this approach are to avoid design errors and the re-use of data in further stages. All to achieve important cost savings in the ship design process.
