Dubai Maritime Week Kicks Off on November 25

Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) has announced today at a press conference, the official launch of the inaugural Dubai Maritime Week that will run from November 25 to 30, 2012 in Dubai, gathering high-profile government officials, industry professionals, experts, operators and ship owners in the UAE and across the region to discuss the latest maritime issues and challenges.

Dubai Maritime Week 2012 is part of DMCA’s key initiatives to promote Dubai as a leading and highly competitive regional and international maritime destination. The first-ever event is being co-organized by Seatrade and supported by a number of strategic partners, including Dubai Municipality, Dubai Customs, National Transport Authority (NTA), DP World and Dubai Culture & Arts Authority.

The inaugural Dubai Maritime Week is expected to host a series of specialized programmes, conferences and panel discussions to provide an ideal networking platform for strategic partners in Dubai government authorities, industry leaders, experts, suppliers, economists, analysts and investors to look into the latest maritime issues, developments, challenges and relevant solutions.

The event will also host public-oriented activities to celebrate the UAE’s rich maritime heritage, namely its fishing and pearl-hunting practices. DMCA’s agenda of the event will further include a range of seminars and conferences to raise awareness of the vital maritime industry role as an integral part of Dubai’s heritage. Some of the key activities to be held during the anticipated event are the ‘Seatrade Middle East & Indian Subcontinent Awards’ and the ‘Seatrade Middle East Maritime Exhibition & Conference’, organized under the close cooperation between DMCA and Seatrade – the leading publishing house and maritime-related organizer in the world.

During the event, Dubai Municipality will be conducting a dedicated workshop in the presence of international experts and professionals from different industries to shed light on Dubai Creek as an important water passage and its role in boosting trade and economic growth as well as its contribution towards the general development of the emirate over the past decades. Dubai Culture & Arts Authority is expected to host a series of cultural and art events at Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood, in a move to raise better awareness on the dynamic role of the maritime sector as an integral part of Dubai’s history, in addition to various other activities organized by Dubai Customs to celebrate the many successful maritime undertakings and contributions of Dubai-based local maritime companies.

Amer Ali, Executive Director, Dubai Maritime City Authority, said: “We commend the jointly ongoing efforts of our strategic partners Dubai Municipality, Dubai Customs, National Transport Authority (NTA), DP World, Dubai Culture & Arts Authority and Seatrade to support the first-ever upcoming maritime related event. We are confident that this event will shed light on the importance of strategic partnerships among government authorities and other industry players in the region to drive the growth of the maritime sector in line with the directives of the UAE leaders.”

Ali added: “Dubai Maritime Week 2012 reflects our underlining message of reinforcing Dubai’s leading position as an international destination for hosting the most prestigious maritime events and we look forward to leveraging on this positive cooperation in the coming years to consolidate Dubai Maritime Week’s position on the regional and international events’ map.”
