Taiwanese shipping company Wisdom Marine has approved a plan to order two bulk carriers at Japan’s Imabari Shipbuilding.

The new vessels would feature 37,800 dwt, according to Wisdom Marine.

The company plans to spend a total of USD 50 million on the Handymax units, or USD 25 million a piece.

Wisom Marine said that the new vessels would be ordered as part of its fleet optimisation progamme as the company aims to dispose of more ageing vessels.

The company currently operates 130 vessels, mostly consisting of Handysize and Supramax bulkers. Data from the company’s fleet list reveals that the company has an additional 13 units on order from different Japanese shipbuilders.
