Honolulu-based shipowner Pasha Hawaii has completed factory acceptance testing of the dual-fueled main engine for its first of two LNG-fueled containerships.
The tests were undertaken for the M/V George III, the company’s ‘Ohana Class vessel, currently being built at Texas-based Keppel AmFELS, a subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M).
Following delivery, the Jones Act units will each carry 2,525 TEUs in Pasha Hawaii’s Hawaii/Mainland trade lane. Featuring 774 feet, the containerships are expected to be delivered in 2020.
The vessel’s 7S80ME-GI Mk 9.5 main engine will meet Tier III emission standards by use of an exhaust gas recirculation system, Pasha Hawaii said, adding that testing of the three MAN 6L35/44DF GenSets were also recently completed.
Both the main and auxiliary engines for the M/V George III were tested on LNG and diesel fuel, as the two new 774-foot U.S. Jones Act, ‘Ohana Class containerships will operate fully on LNG from day one in service.
