South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) closed the year with 49 ships in the orderbook, the final order being announced on December 31, 2018.

The order relates to the construction of an LNG carrier for an unnamed owner worth KRW 209 billion (approximately USD 185 million).

The latest contract brings SHI’s orderbook value to USD 6.3 billion, and the ordering tally includes 18 LNG carriers, 13 containerships, 15 tankers, and 3 special purpose ships.

Samsung ended the year on a high note having received orders for 7 LNG carriers in December alone, including two from Cardiff Gas, two from Gaslog and two from separate unnamed owners.
