BW LPG Praises Its Crew for “Serious and Damn Good Seamanship” following Pirate Attack

Singapore-based owner of gas carriers BW LPG revealed that the crew of its LPG carrier BW Frigg thwarted a pirate attack on October 29.

As World Maritime News reported, a group of armed pirates attacked the LPG tanker while it was carrying out bunkering operations, around 101 nautical miles West of Pointe Noire, the Republic of the Congo.

IMB Piracy Reporting Centre said that pirates in a speed boat chased and fired upon the LPG tanker causing the ship to trigger emergency bunker stop procedure and cast off.

The master employed evasive manoeuvres and increased speed, managing to escape the pirates. At the time, the name of the attacked vessel was not known.

Following the incident, senior management from BW LPG and Wilhelmsen Ship Management held an appreciation ceremony on board the ship to thank the crew for their dedication and “going above and beyond the call of duty.”

Speaking during the visit, Pontus Berg from BW LPG, said that the crew’s quick reaction and teamwork showed “serious and damn good seamanship.”

“I am really proud to have you in the BW and Wilhelmsen family,” he said.
