Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines has signed agreements related to the construction of a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) for Indonesia’s Jawa 1 project.

The FSRU would be provided by PT Jawa Satu Regas (JSR), a joint company of PT Pertamina, Marubeni Corporation, and Sojitz Corporation, to storage and regasify LNG to supply fuel to a gas-fired power plant.

Featuring a length of 292.5 meters and a breadth of 43.4 meters, the FSRU will have an LNG storage capacity of 170,000 m3 and a regasification capacity of 300 MMscfd. It would be built by South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries.

Under the agreements, MOL would be responsible for FSRU construction supervision, maintenance, and operation services.

The power plant, with a generating capacity of 1,760MW, would be built, owned, and operated by PT Jawa Satu Power (JSP) in Indonesia’s West Java province. The power plant is scheduled to start operation in December 2021 under a contract period of 25 years.

The FSRU will be placed 14km offshore in the Cilamaya Sea, east of Jakarta, and connected to the power plant via a 21km long pipeline.

MOL said that this is Asia’s first such Gas-to-Power project using FSRU, electric generation and gas related facilities.

The project is co-financed by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, Asia Development Bank, Mizuho Bank, MUFG Bank, Oversea Chinese Banking Corporation, Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, and Societe Generale Bank & Trust.
