LPG Tanker’s Chief Engineer Injured in Boarding Incident off Singapore

The Chief Engineer aboard the LPG tanker Maregas was assaulted and sustained injuries in a boarding incident off Singapore.

According to data provided by Asian piracy watchdog ReCAAP ISC, the crewmember sustained injuries to his face and hands after three perpetrators confronted him and forcibly took his gold chain using a wooden pole.

The incident occurred on September 19, while the LPG tanker was sailing in the Singapore Strait.

The perpetrators made their escape when the alarm was raised. Crew was mustered to conduct security search after the perpetrators made their escape. ReCAAP informed that the remaining crewmembers are safe and no further injuries were reported.

Maregas’ Master informed Singapore Vessel Traffic Information System of the incident via VHF. Master raised alarm upon the report from the Chief Engineer. Crew was mustered to conduct security search after the perpetrators made their escape.

Singapore Police Coast Guard boarded the ship upon its arrival in Singapore for security search and investigation.
