Marine transportation services provider American Petroleum Tankers (APT) has extended a charter contract with the US government for one of its State-class tankers, M/T Empire State.

As informed, APT, part of Kinder Morgan, has been awarded a USD 32.9 million modification under a previously awarded firm-fixed-price contract to fund the third one-year option period. If all options are exercised, the contract value will be USD 251.1 million, the US Department of Defense said.

The option will continue to provide the US-flagged Jones Act tanker for the transportation of petroleum product in support of the Defense Logistics Agency–Energy.

The contract includes a one-year firm period of performance, three one-year option periods and one eleven-month final option period.

Work will be performed worldwide and is expected to be completed by September 18, 2019, according to the US DoD.

Built at NASSCO shipyard in 2010, the Empire State is one of five State-class tankers in APT’s fleet. The 48,600 dwt ship features a length of 183 meters and a width of 32 meters.
