China’s Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (DACKS) started the year with a naming and delivery ceremony for a newbuilding very large crude carrier (VLCC).

Featuring 308,000 dwt, the new ship was named New Prime and handed over to its owner, China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES), on January 4, 2018.

With a length of 333 meters and a depth of 30 meters, the ship is the first of two vessels ordered by CMES.

The second vessel is currently under construction at the yard and, according to data provided by VesselsValue, it is scheduled for delivery in April 2018. The tankers have a market value of around USD 76.5 million each.

Capable of reaching a maximum speed of 15.5 knots, the VLCCs are of a new DE042 ship design with energy-saving and environment-friendly features.
