P&O Ferry Refloated After Grounding in Calais

One of the vessels operated by ferry and logistics company P&O Ferries ran aground while departing from the Port of Calais on December 10 and was refloated subsequently.

The ferry in question is the 30,635 gross-ton Pride of Kent.

“We can confirm that one of our ships ran aground whilst leaving the Port of Calais this afternoon (Sunday),” P&O Ferries’ spokesperson said in a statement.

“There are no reported injuries, the ship was refloated within two hours,” he added.

Following the incident, all passengers were disembarked in a few hours, the spokesman told World Maritime News.

The Port of Calais was closed after the grounding. However, it was reopened in the evening hours of December 10, with all services resumed.

As of December 11, Calais/Dover crossings are affected by weather conditions and there is risk of delays, the Port of Calais tweeted.
