Report: Oman Shipping Adding 10 Bulkers for Aggregate Exports?

Oman Shipping Company (OSC) intends to increase share in the transport market for aggregates and acquire up to ten bulk carriers for that purpose, Tarik Mohammed Al Junaidi, CEO of Oman Shipping Company was cited by the Times of Oman as saying.

As explained, the move comes due to a significant growth in aggregate exports from Oman.

“That is an area we want to capture. We are now exporting small cargoes and that is not enough. We want to get into a bigger scale,” Al Junaidi commented, adding that the company might need from two to ten bulkers for transporting loose cargoes. This number is to depend on how much business the shipping company can capture.

What is more, OSC confirmed the recently announced plan to buy two second-hand containerships.

As World Maritime News earlier reported, OSC is to invest around USD 20 million in the two 3,000 TEU boxships which would replace the currently chartered-in ships.

Founded in 2003, OSC currently owns a fleet of 51 owned and chartered-in vessels with an aggregate tonnage of more than 8 million dwt.
