Gener8 Maritime to Shed Aframax Duo?

The US-based crude oil shipping company Gener8 Maritime has decided to sell two of its Aframax tankers to an undisclosed shipowner, according to data provided by VesselsValue.

The vessels in question are the 106,600 dwt Gener8 Elektra and Gener8 Daphne, which were built in 2002 by Japanese shipbuilder Tsuneishi Zosen.

Under the agreement unveiled on March 30, the ships, which feature a length of 240 meters and a width of 42 meters, are reportedly being sold each for a price of USD 10.5 million.

Both tankers are currently operating in the V8 Pool.

World Maritime News contacted the company for confirmation and more details on the sale, however, the company is yet to reply.

For the full year of 2016, Gener8 Maritime recorded a net income of USD 67.3 million, down from USD 129.6 million seen a year earlier, while its net voyage revenue increased to USD 392.1 million from USD 334.6 million reported in the respective periods.

In early March 2017, Gener8 Maritime expanded its fleet with the 20th ship from the company’s 21 ECO very large crude carrier (VLCC) newbuilding program, the Gener8 Ethos.

The 299,000 dwt tanker, which was constructed by South Korea’s shipbuilder Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, has a length of 333 meters and a width of 60 meters. It was purchased from Navig8 Crude Tankers in January 2015, according to data provided by VesselsValue.
