Chief Engineer Medevaced from Euronav Tanker

The chief engineer aboard the very large crude carrier (VLCC) Ingrid was medevaced from the ship as he suffered a leg fracture after getting hit with the anchor chain.

The incident occurred in the morning hours on March 2 while the tanker was in the lightering zone off San Luis Pass, Texas, according to the United States Coast Guard (USCG).

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders were informed of the incident and an Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew was sent to medevac the man.

The 35-year-old man was taken to University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and transferred in stable condition, USCG said.

Belgium-flagged Ingrid, featuring 314,000 dwt, is operated by shipping firm Euronav, according to data provided by VesselsValue.
