ACL to Shift Vessel Calls from Norfolk International Terminals
Image Courtesy: ACLUS shipping company American Container Line (ACL) plans to relocate vessel calls from the Port of Virginia’s Norfolk International Terminals (NIT) to Portsmouth Marine Terminal (PMT), starting from late March 2017.
The company’s final vessel call at NIT will be conducted by Atlantic Conveyor, with an estimated time of arrival on March 21.
Atlantic Sea is expected to inaugurate ACL’s new service at PMT in late March.
The Port of Virginia said that the acceptance of loaded export containers at PMT is governed by the early return date (ERD) for each vessel. In addition, non-containerized export cargo - breakbulk, roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) - is now being accepted at PMT for future export sailings.
The change comes due to the improvements at NIT South that are scheduled to begin in July.
Currently, the port is carrying out expansion and optimization projects at NIT and Virginia International Gateway (VIG).
