Spotted: World’s Largest Single-Deck Log Carrier Arrives in Tacoma

In today’s spotted we present you the Olive Bay, believed to be the world’s largest single-deck bulk/log carrier, which arrived at The Northwest Seaport Alliance’s (NWSA) West Hylebos log terminal in Tacoma on November 24, 2016.

Built in 2015 specifically to carry logs, the Supramax bulk carrier is owned by Hong Kong-based shipping company Pacific Basin Shipping.

The 54,800 dwt vessel features a length of 190 meters and a width of 32 meters. It can hold up to 8 million board-feet of logs, which is significantly more than the 5 million-board-foot capacity of most log ships to call here, according to the alliance.

NWSA said that the Olive Bay is also the biggest ship in the Chinese log business to call the US West Coast.

The Olive Bay will stop in Port Angeles before it heads to China.

Including the Olive Bay, Pacific Basin’s fleet is currently comprised of 91 vessels with a total size of 3,787,600 dwt, VesselsValue’s data shows.
