Sembcorp Marine’s EJA Repairs First Vessel

Brazil-based Estaleiro Jurong (EJA), a subsidiary of Singapore’s shipbuilding major Sembcorp Marine, has completed its first vessel repair project.

The Olympic Gemini, a bulk carrier operated by Athens-based Springfield Shipping Company, left EJA on May 12 after a week of repairs to its cargo hatch cover and renewal works on the main deck supporting foundations.

Built in 2006, the 82,992 dwt vessel features a length of 228.99 meters and a width of 32.26 meters.

“We commend the EJA team for their fast turnaround, close collaboration and strong commitment in ensuring a successful repair operation despite the short notice and tight schedule. Springfield Shipping Company looks forward to working with EJA again,” a Springfield Shipping Company representative said.

“We are heartened to be chosen by Springfield Shipping Company for the repair of Olympic Gemini and to be given this valuable opportunity to be of service,” EJA President Altaf Hossain commented.

This is the first project for the yard, specializing in integrated marine and offshore engineering solutions, in the repair business as it diversifies into other fields amid ordering slowdown in the offshore oil and gas industry.

Supporting the yard’s operation is a Brazil-flagged giant floating crane with a lifting capacity of 3,600 tons that is capable of modules integration and heavy lifting operations. Upon full completion, the yard will also have a new floating dock with a lifting capacity of 85,000 tons.
