SK Shipping Linked to Tax Evasion Inspection, Company Refutes Claims

South Korean shipping company SK Shipping Co. is reported to be under investigation by the country’s National Tax Service, the Korea Herald informs.

Namely, the company is linked to alleged tax evasion practices as the investigation is being conducted by the NTS’s division in charge of large companies’ tax evasion and business coruption cases.

SK Shipping dismissed the claims, according to the Korean daily, saying that the investigation is a regular tax audit and that the company is cooperating with the authority on relevant matters and documentation.

The investigation is said to be underway until mid-May.

The company, operating a fleet of over 70 ships, including bulkers, gas carriers and tankers, is yet to reply to World Maritime News with a statement on the matter.
