NOC: Fires at Libya’s Ras Lanuf and Es-Sidra Terminals Extinguished

Fires raging at Libyan two major oil ports Ras Lanuf and Es-sidra were extinguished on January 8th, the country’s National Oil Co. said.

At least five oil tanks were set on fire in a rampage launched last week by the Islamic State militants within attempts to seize the country’s oil assets.

According to Mohamed al-Manfi, an oil official in eastern Libya, cited by Reuters, the oil tanks set ablaze were estimated to contain 420,000 to 460,000 barrels of oil.

However, the attempts to seize the ports were refuted by local guards after violent clashes that lasted for several days, killing at least nine guards and injuring over 40 people.

The latest reports indicate that ISIS militants attacked a power plant in Benghazi, eastern Libya on Sunday.
