K Line Names Chubu Electric’s New LNG Carrier

Japanese shipping company Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (K Line) held a naming ceremony for a newly-built liquefied natural gas carrier at Sakaide Shipyard of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (KHI) today.

The 164,700m3 Moss-type (independent spherical tank) vessel was named Bishu Maru by the President & Director Satoru Katsuno of Chubu Electric Power, the charterer of the vessel.

As reported by World Maritime News, the vessel was ordered by Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha for Chubu Electric in March 2013.

K Line said that the new carrier will mainly serve on the transportation route between Australia and Japan after delivery, and is expected to contribute to stable transportation of energy in Japan.

Featuring the length of 293m, a beam of 48.9m, and a reheat turbine plant, the vessel is capable of reaching a speed of 19.5 knots.
