Six Hurt as US Military Helicopter Crashes onto Ship off Okinawa

Six people were injured and a U.S. Army H-60 helicopter was damaged after it crashed onto the USNS Red Cloud while conducting a training mission approximately 20 miles east of Okinawa, Japan.

The helicopter is currently on the deck of the USNS Red Cloud.

The injured were transported to the U.S. Naval Hospital at Camp Foster, and the cause of the incident is currently under investigation, according to the U.S. Forces, Japan.

The 1999-built USNS Red Cloud is one of U.S. Military Sealift Command’s nineteen large, medium-speed roll-on/roll-off ships.

Part of the Sealift Program, these ships serve as dry cargo surge sealift carriers, transporting containerized cargo as well as rolling stock.
