BTZ Opts for Vlissingen for Its Bulk Operations
Following talks with Zeeland Seaports Port Company, Bulk Terminal Zeeland B.V. (BTZ) signed a contract on 10 July to lease a site in the port of Vlissingen.
BTZ plans to use the site on the Quarleshaven to store and process bulk goods. Access to the site is via a quay that can accommodate ships with a maximum length of 225 metres.
“We looked at the possibilities in the port after noticing a need for bulk goods processing, and that’s where our journey began,” says managing director of BTZ, Marijn van Nispen.
“The port of Vlissingen has excellent infrastructure, which BTZ can utilise. Vlissingen is just an hour’s sail from the North Sea and has very good access to the European hinterland, by road, rail and inland shipping. So there are plenty of opportunities for a successful bulk operation,” added Van Nispen.
BTZ was established in January 2015 with the purpose of taking over the empty storage space for bulk goods and expanding the processing services for bulk goods in Vlissingen. The company said it would work in close collaboration with Vertom Shipping.
