Update: Canadian Icebreaker Frees Stuck Cargo Ship

The Canadian Coast Guard has freed the cargo ship Arthur M. Anderson, which spent five days beset in ice near Conneaut Harbor, writes the Assoctaed Press (AP).

The Arthur M. Anderson is en route back to Wisconsin having been broken free with the assistance of Canadian Coast Guard Ship Griffon.

The cargo ship should reach  the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal in Wisconsin between Monday and Thursday, according to the AP.

Griffon, a 234-foot multi-mission medium icebreaker, has been called to assist as the US Coast Guard Cutter Bristol Bay had failed to assist the cargo vessel as the ice was too thick for the tug to break.

The Arthur M. Anderson got stuck on Tuesday some seven miles northwest of Conneaut.

Ten people are on board the freighter and there have been no reported injuries to the crew
