The video above gives you an update on the current stage of the Panama Canal Expansion Program aimed at creating a new lane of traffic along the Canal.
The expansion will see the construction of a new set of locks, doubling the waterway’s capacity.
The new locks will have three chambers, water-saving basins, lateral filling and emptying system & rolling gates.
Upon completion, the two new lock complexes will have a total of 16 gates, eight in the Pacific and eight in the Atlantic.
Overall, the Canal expansion is currently 85 percent complete.
