VIDEO: Launching of Sapura Ônix

The Sapura Ônix was launched at the Royal IHC shipyard in Krimpen aan den IJssel, near Rotterdam on Friday 1st August.

She is the 3rd of 5 identical sister vessels in the order placed with Royal IHC in 2013 by Sapura Navegação Marítima, a joint venture between SapuraKencana and Seadrill.

All of the 5 vessels are being built at their yard in Krimpen aan den IJssel and the order is due to be completed in 2016.

The vessels are fully integrated 550t pipelayers which are completely designed, engineered and built by Royal IHC.

They will work in Brazilian waters to develop deep-sea oilfields on behalf of Petrobras. The first vessel, Sapura Diamante, recently started working, three months ahead of schedule.
