Sewol Captain Facing Life Sentence

The captain of the ill fated ‘Sewol’ ferry Lee Joon-seok (68), along with two crew members could be imprisoned for life on the grounds of passenger abandonment and negligence charges under the existing Korean law, as reported by Bloomberg.

EU States Reject Ban on Filipino Seafarers

At the Committee on the Safety of the Sea (COSS) held on 23 April, the EU Member States endorsed the recommendation from the European Commission (EC) not to de-recognise Filipino seafarer certificates of competency.
