USCG Aircrew Medevacs Woman from Cruise Ship

A 50-year old woman suffering health complications was medically evacuated from the cruise ship Carnival Liberty by a U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla., helicopter crew off the coast of Cat Island, Bahamas on Sunday.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. watchstanders at Coast Guard Seventh District command center received notification from the cruise ship concerning a 50-year-old woman experiencing health complications Sunday.

A medical crew aboard the cruise ship examined the patient and contacted the Coast Guard for assistance. After discussing the woman’s condition with the Coast Guard’s on-duty flight surgeon, it was determined that a medevac was needed.

A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew deployed to the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC), arrived on scene and hoisted the woman and a nurse off of the cruise ship.

The woman was transferred to EMS crews in Nassau, Bahamas and later transferred to Doctor’s Hospital where her condition was listed as stable.
