Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), one of South Korea’s ‘Big Three’ shipbuilders, announced today in its regulatory filing that it has won a $1.28 billion order for the construction of two drillships.
The contract, signed yesterday with an Oceania-based owner, is this year’s first major deal for the shipbuilder.
According to the filing, delivery of the vessels is slated for mid-2017.
Since the launch of Samsung Heavy’s shipbuilding business back in 1974, the company received orders for more than 1,050 ships. SHI’s world-leading technological excellence is proven by the successful delivery of more than 920 vessels.
