Hyundai Heavy to Launch New Ship Design Subsidiary

Hyundai Heavy Industries Co.(HHI) ,one of the world’s largest shipbuilders, announced yesterday that the company is going to launch a new affiliate for design and inspection early next year.

HHI will establish Hyundai Engineering & Technology (Hyundai E&T), a new ship design subsidiary in January by expanding its unit Mipo Engineering Co., reports Seatrade.

The company, with headquarters in Ulsan, will also expand its labor force in the design field to 1,600 employees and in the inspection field to 400 employees by 2018.

Hyundai Heavy anticipates that the new subsidiary will strengthen its engineering capacity for high-end ships such as drill ships and offshore plants while expanding its technological competitiveness.
