STX Splashes LNG Carrier SCF MELAMPUS, South Korea

STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. carried out, on Nov. 5th 2013, the launching of SCF MELAMPUS, the first of two 170,000m³ ice class gas carriers that are being built for the Sovcomflot OJSC.

The keel laying ceremony for the vessel was held in Busan, South Korea on August 22nd 2013, 10 days ahead of schedule. The delivery of the vessel is slated for December 2014. The new vessels will be built to the dual RS/LR class, where RS will act as the leading society.

L.O.A.: 299,90m

Breadth: 45,80m

Depth: 26,00m

Draught (Loading): 11,50m

Speed: 19,50 knots

This state-of-the-art Ice2 ATLANTICMAX will be under long term charter to Shell.
