Germany: Meyer Werft to Build New Vessel for Star Cruises

Star Cruises, the leading cruise company in Asia, has placed another contract with German shipbuilder Meyer Werft for a new cruise ship. This vessel will increase Star Cruises’ fleet to eight ships.

The order is still conditional on financing. The 150,000-GT newbuilding with building number S. 712 is scheduled for delivery in fall 2017. The ship will be a sister ship to the ship ordered in October 2013 and will have a length of about 330 metres and cruise with 3300 passengers in 1,680 cabins.

The ship boasts a variety of restaurants, entertainment venues, casinos and a high number of high class suites which are specially designed for the Asian market. An exceptional level of service is provided by a crew of about 2,030. With a speed of up to 24 knots, the ship will have a great flexibility to serve exciting Asian itineraries.

The shipyard’s order book increases to seven cruise ships up to the end of 2017. Meyer Werft’s management and staff are very pleased that this new ship will be built in Papen-burg/Germany again and, will safeguard employment of Meyer Werft and their suppliers up to fall 2017.

About 3,100 direct employees of Meyer Werft as well as about 20,000 employees of con-tractors and partners in Europe are working on this kind of projects.
