The support vessels of the “Elbe”- Class 404 are under supervision of the German Navy’s mine detection squadron as well as of the speedboat squadron. Its main task is the supply of boats at sea with fuel, water, food, spare parts and munitions. Furthermore the existing sewage treatment plants ensure an environmentally responsible disposal.

Also the tenders support arising overhaul works. For this purpose a so- called “System Support Group” of approx. 30 soldiers of any service grade are on board being able to execute repairs during operation immediately. Furthermore the afterdecks of the supply ships are fitted with a landing deck and a flight operation plant allowing helicopters to land.
