Norway - OceanSaver Gets DNV Type Approval for Its Mark II BWT System

OceanSaver today received DNV Type Approval certification of its revolutionary next generation ballast water management technology, Mark II.

We have successfully passed all DNV Type Approval requirements guaranteeing that our newest BWT technology, Mark II fully meets the requirements of the International Ballast Water Convention and the Norwegian Administration,” said Houtan Houshangi, CEO of OceanSaver.

OceanSaver’s Mark II ballast water treatment system is a tailored version of the already type approved Mark I model, but with the most ‘energy demanding’ features of the Mark I removed. The Mark II model introduces better performing filtration technology and reduces piping installations considerably, which saves both time and money during installation.

Previously focusing mostly on the larger sized vessel segment, OceanSaver is positioning Mark II as a consistent, cost effective and dependable ballast water treatment application also for the medium range vessel market, thus expanding its client base.

The industry has already responded very favourably to Mark II and OceanSaver’s high-end technology for critical ballast water treatment applications. Mark II widens our core market segments, reduces installation time and complexity for retrofit and newbuilding projects without any compromise on quality,” says Senior Vice President Sales & Marketing Tor Atle Eiken.

OceanSaver’s focus is not only on procurement costs, but on Mark II’s entire lifecycle costs, including spare parts, energy consumption and manpower. The energy required for the complete system and related equipment is 50% less for Mark II compared to Mark I. This, in addition to the no treatment at de-ballasting ability, makes Mark II highly cost-efficient.

OceanSaver is delivering Mark II systems for two suezmax tankers at China’s Bohai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry and four bulk carriers at SPP Shipyard in Korea. The agreement is valued at around USD 7 million and represents OceanSaver’s first bulk carrier BWT system delivery, consisting of the supply and installation of 4 sets of Mark II ballast systems, each with a treatment capacity up to 2 x 800m3/h.
