US Virginia Port Authority (VPA) is looking to order a total of 86 automated stacking cranes under two separate contracts from the Finland-based manufacturer of cranes Konecranes.

The first contract would include the delivery of 60 automated stacking cranes for Norfolk International Terminals (NIT), while the second contract would see 26 cranes provided to Virginia International Gateway (VIG).

Under the Notice of Intent to Award Contracts, Konecranes would deliver the equipment in phases during the period from 2018 to 2020.

In total, the two contracts would exceed the value of EUR 200 million (USD 217.6 million), according to the crane manufacturer.

The contract are subject to approval by the VPA Board of Commissioners at a meeting scheduled to be held on November 15, 2016, as well as to agreement with Konecranes on the final contract terms.
