Spotted: AIDAsol Starts Voyage to the Canaries

AIDAsol, a cruise ship owned by German cruise line AIDA Cruises, docked for the last time in 2016 at the HafenCity West cruise terminal in Hamburg on October 19, 2016, before departing for the Canaries.

On its voyage, the 2011-built cruise ship will sail along the Elbe river and is scheduled to visit Dover, Le Havre, Ferrol, Lisbon, Funchal and Arrecife before arriving at Las Palmas in Gran Canaria.

From there AIDAsol will go on 7-day cruises every Sunday starting from October 30, 2016, visiting the highlights of the Canary Islands. On the ship’s itinerary are Madeira, Lanzarote, La Palma and Tenerife.

AIDAsol, which features a length of 253.3 meters and a width of 32.1 meters, is expected to return to Hamburg on April 21, 2017.

While it was anchored at HafenCity, AIDAsol was supplied with low-emission power by the LNG hybrid barge.

“We believe in LNG as being the cleanest fossil fuel. The LNG hybrid barge allows ships fitted with a land power connection to be supplied with electricity from LNG,” Monika Griefahn, Chief Sustainability Officer at AIDA Cruises, said.
