Alabama awaiting test results on Gulf fishing

Both commercial and recreational fishing could reopen within days on the Alabama coast after a summer-long layoff because of the Gulf oil spill. State Conservation Commissioner Barnett Lawley said Tuesday that state waters are free of oil, and officials are awaiting test results that will determine whether fishing can resume in waters around Dauphin Island and the Mississippi Sound.
