After Seattle and Los Angeles, members of G6 Alliance decided to omit calls at the Port of Oakland amid ongoing congestion.
Ten-to-fifteen ships are anchored in San Francisco Bay daily awaiting berths at Oakland marine terminals as the port struggles to handle record numbers of containers.
According to a customer advisory, the Alliance will be suspending calls to this port on the Central China 4 (CC4) service for four consecutive weeks, starting with the NYK Terra (v.040E, ETA Port of Oakland on 6 February 2015).
The Alliance also said that it would also omit Port of Tacoma calls.
The omission relates to the calls on the North Pacific 2, for two vessels Conti Basel and MOL Precision.
In December, G6 lines decided to temporarily shift its Pacific Atlantic 1 service from Tacoma to Seattle amid ongoing congestion across the US West Coast so as to avoid further delays.
The Alliance also suspended the eastbound Los Angeles call on its Pacific Atlantic 1 service during the same month.
Member lines of the G6 Alliance are American President Lines (APL), Hapag Lloyd, Hyundai Merchant Marine, Mitsui, Nippon and OOCL.
Earlier this week member lines of the Oceania Vessel Sharing Agreement (OVSA) announced that they were planning to temporary suspend Oakland port call to improve the reliability of their US West Coast – Australasia Loop 2 (WAN) Service.
