Shipowners warn of equal pay risks

More than 40 per cent of British-flagged shipping capacity could move elsewhere unless the government’s equality bill is amended, a shipowners’ trade body has warned. The Chamber of Shipping is concerned that equal pay provisions in the bill, going through parliament, appear to apply to British-flagged ships anywhere in the world, forcing owners to pay all crew members the same rates as their British counterparts.
