FSG Hands Over ROLLDOCK STORM

RollDock Shipping BV has taken delivery of their latest vessel, ROLLDOCK STORM. The vessel is their fourth high quality, next generation semi-submersible heavy lift ro-ro vessel, built by Flensburger-Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) in Germany.

The ROLLDOCK STORM, highly flexible and multi-functional, is equipped with two 350 ton capacity Liebherr heavy lift cranes, a heavy duty ro-ro ramp with a weight capacity of up to 4,000 tons which can be positioned at various levels in relation to the quay.

She also has the ability to submerge to facilitate the loading of cargoes such as dredgers, submarines and various naval craft. The vessel’s dock hold is box shaped and measures 119.44 m x 19.40 m, enabling large objects to be accommodated on board.

Her propulsion consists of 2 MAK 9M32 engines with a total installed power of 9000 kW, providing a sailing speed of approximately 17 knots. Operational redundancy is warranted by the fact that the vessel has twin engines, propeller shafts and rudders.

With a maximum shallow draft of only 5.67 m fully loaded coupled with exceptional manoeuvrability, she is able to call at remote ports with little water depth to load or discharge cargo.

RollDock joined forces with BigLift in their joint venture “BigRoll”. BigRoll (owned 50% by RollDock and 50% by BigLift) expects to take delivery of two new vessels, BIGROLL BARENTSZ and BIGROLL BERING, in 2015.

These vessels have been specifically designed to deliver large and heavy modules in a safe, fast and efficient manner, and as they have Finnish Swedish 1A Ice Class approval, they are well suited to accessing remote Arctic locations. BigRoll further holds an option on two more sister vessels.
